Training for creative specialties in Czech universities

The Czech Republic is one of the top destinations for arts education. Studying at creative universities is a unique process of training under the guidance of experienced masters and famous artists. After you have mastered the Czech language and completed a preparatory course, you can study at art universities free of charge. Prague Education Center has been preparing applicants for this field for more than 17 years.

What specialties are trained for?

This field of study includes all types of fine arts, design in various forms, architecture, sculpture, applied arts, cinema, theater and music. Training is provided for admission to the following specialties (the list is incomplete, you can get more details from our specialist):

Which universities and cities study creative fields?

There are several specialized academies in the Czech Republic offering training for young talents. First of all, these are the three main Prague universities:

• Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze)
• Academy of Musical Arts (Akademie múzických uměních umění v Praze, AMU)
• Higher School of Applied Arts in Prague (Vysoká škola uměleckoprůmyslová).

These are universities with a century-long history and a big name not only in the Czech Republic. The best teaching staff is concentrated in these universities, including international faculty.

Admission

When applying to design-related specialties, for example, the applicant must be prepared to submit a portfolio of home works on the specialty, take an art history test (partially including the Czech part), and pass a number of examinations, including: academic drawing, composition, works on a given applied theme, etc. If it is a film (theater or music profession), talent in the future profession will be tested. Future directors, for example, must submit their own movies.

The competition for this direction is high, so universities accept only the most talented. To increase your chances, you need not only talent, but also preliminary acquaintance with the level of the university, its requirements, works of students and teachers.

Is it promising?

Creative universities accept a small number of students, so each graduate is unique in his or her own way. In addition, it allows professors to work and develop the talent of each student individually. Therefore, all artists, designers, fashion designers, filmmakers and musicians will find their place in the world of art or applied arts.

Prague Education Center’s training programs for creative professions:

The start of the training program is from July 2023

The study dates are specially designed to take into account the start of the admission campaign to creative universities – admission to creative universities takes place in winter and applications are submitted by the end of November. Accordingly, classes start earlier so that students have time to master the Czech language at a good level and prepare for the entrance exams.

According to the requirements of creative universities, by the end of November students should already have a B1/B2 level of Czech, depending on the chosen university. The training program is designed to meet all these requirements.

What the training program includes:

• 800 hours of preparation, including major subjects
• Studying Czech at the B1/B2 level until the end of November.
• Preparation of a portfolio in accordance with the university requirements
• Advice on entrance exams
• Meetings with students who are studying in creative specialties
