The Polytechnic University in Jihlava was founded in 2004. It is one of the youngest universities in the Czech Republic, but nevertheless very prestigious.

There are 8 bachelor’s specialties and 2 master’s specialties at 6 departments of the university. Education takes place in full-time and part-time form. The standard duration of Bachelor’s degree is 3 years and Master’s degree is 2 years. It was founded by order of the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Czech Republic in 2004, and in 2017 it underwent re-accreditation and restructuring. Today it is the only educational institution in the Vysočina region with a status similar to a university.

The following facts speak about the achievements of the Polytechnic Institute of Jihlava:

1. The university started work with several specialties, gave education with a master’s degree. On the basis of the Higher School, there is its own Center for Continuing Education and a Department of Additional Education. There are directions for obtaining a master’s degree.
2. Own language school on the basis of the British Council Examination Center — an opportunity to master several foreign languages during training and get a Cambridge ESOL certificate.
3. For students studying in IT areas, the possibility of obtaining international computer rights is provided. This makes the geography of employment almost unlimited.
4. An interesting (and thoughtful) decision of the scientific council allows working students to receive full-fledged knowledge. Some specialties of the university provide full-time and part-time education. All areas of the master’s degree work in an advisory mode, so it is realistic to get an education and at the same time “build” a career.
5. Excellent combination of theory and practice. Starting from the second year, students annually take practical classes in partner companies of the Higher Polytechnic School in Jihlava, of which the university has more than forty. The practice lasts from 12 to 32 weeks.
6. There is an ERASMUS student exchange program, within which it is possible to improve qualifications in European specialized institutes or universities.

Vysoká škola polytechnická Jihlava is the only educational institution in the Czech Republic with its own travel agency. In it, students not only practice, but also have the opportunity to book a ticket to travel with a “student” discount.

Training programs

The only difference between Vysoká škola polytechnická Jihlava and a traditional university in the Czech Republic is the absence of postgraduate programs. Programs have been developed at the Polytechnic School of the highest level of accreditation:

• Bachelor’s degree. 3 years of full-time training, there are directions with full-time and part-time training. At the end of the program, a diploma is issued, which is quoted not only in the Czech Republic, but also in a number of other European states.
• Magistracy. The training lasts 2 years. Admission to the university for master’s degrees is carried out on the basis of a previously obtained diploma in the chosen specialty.

The advantage of studying at the Polytechnic Institute of Jihlava is that you do not need to pay for education. Even foreigners have the right to apply for funding provided by the state budget and trouble-free employment. They can study without a large monetary investment.

The teaching staff of VŠPJ includes about 199 teachers. The Institute actively participates in international student exchange programs with other educational institutions. At the Polytechnic Institute in the city of Jihlava, you can study in such specialties as tourism, finance and management, applied technologies for industrial practice, applied computer science, applied engineering, obstetrics, general nurse, medical and social worker. It is not a classical university and therefore the training is not divided into faculties. Teaching and educational activities are carried out at separate specialized departments.

Applied Computer Science

Applied informatics (Aplikovaná informatika). This field of study combines two major sciences: economics and computer science. Special emphasis is placed on the development of modern software and information technologies for enterprises. The Faculty of Computer Science has bachelor’s degree programs in specializations:

• computer networks;
• operating systems;
• databases;
• software;
• information systems;
• software development;
• security of computing systems;
• business informatics;
• creating desktop and web applications;
• creating a website.

Thanks to a long (12-week) practice during the study period, at the end of the 3-year program, students receive an excellent resume. They are employed in prestigious companies without complications.

Mission of the University: providing professionally diverse training programs focused primarily on the needs of the regional labor market. The University promotes creative activity and applied research of students in order to provide a variety of learning opportunities, as well as to promote the cultural and educational development of the region.

Applied technology for industry

The Czech Republic is one of the most technologically developed countries of the former socialist camp, therefore it constantly needs specialists in the field of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and automated control. The development of industry is impossible without the presence of experienced service personnel, respectively, this faculty conducts training in specializations:

• processing of signals from sensors of physical quantities;
• design and development of computer control systems for industrial automation;
• design of structures of machine parts and electrical appliances;
• maintenance of structural parts and automation systems;
• control of automatic process control and control of mechanotronics systems;
• design of technological processes of production;
• production quality control; basics of communication and presentation.

The training is conducted only in Czech. The faculty annually recruits from 70 to 85 applicants.

Tourism

“Travel, explore the world and earn money at the same time” is the slogan of the Faculty of Tourism. It provides an excellent knowledge base in various fields of tourism, including administrative, personnel, financial and organizational. The total duration of the practice is 22 weeks. Graduates, after completing their bachelor’s degree, have a good resume for employment. This specialty teaches:

• development of a business plan based on the analysis of supply and demand in the market;
• plan activities, make a budget and evaluate the achieved economic results of enterprises (including tax issues);
• apply strategic and operational marketing and quality management in tourism;
• based on the assignment to develop and implement a complete tourism product (including a destination product);
• perform the work of a tourism master or a delegate to travel agencies;
• analyze the prerequisites for the development of tourism;
• actively use computer technology for management needs;
• use your knowledge and skills in at least two foreign languages.

The forms of study are full—time and combined, the language of instruction is Czech.

Finance and Management

One of the few faculty in the list of the Jihlava Polytechnic Institute that has specializations in several foreign languages. Since studying at a university in this direction implies mastering knowledge about the international economy, special linguistic courses are provided, mainly on deep mastering of English and German. In the program of the faculty:

• Economy;
• management of economy class companies;
• mathematics and statistics;
• economic law;
• marketing;
• accounting and billing of services;
• financial marketing;
• financial management.

The faculty graduates bachelors prepared for the specifics of the modern financial and economic market. To strengthen knowledge, the university annually arranges its students in specialized organizations for practice, which guarantees employment immediately after graduation. Trainings, seminars and business courses are held annually throughout Europe. Students take part in the international business week together with representatives of universities in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia.

Computer systems

For graduates of schools and secondary specialized educational institutions interested in the prospects for the development of computer technology, this faculty of the Higher Polytechnic School in Jihlava offers the development of knowledge in the field of:

• theoretical electrical engineering;
• analog and numerical programming of electronic circuits;
• programming;
• control systems and industrial automation;
• measuring and instrumentation equipment;

The training is conducted in Czech, there is only a bachelor’s degree program (full-time and combined forms of study).

Midwifery

Doctors in the Czech Republic are one of the most popular and well—paid professions. Studying at this faculty, students gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of:

• providing medical care during childbirth;
• providing the necessary supervision, care and recommendations to women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period;
• physiology of childbirth and newborn care;
• care and care of a woman in the field of gynecology;
• participation in cooperation with a doctor in preventive, curative, diagnostic, rehabilitation activities.

This faculty has a master’s program “Assistance in childbirth” with full-time and part-time education.

Nursing

The peculiarity of studying at this medical faculty is that the qualifications of graduates are recognized in the EU and do not require confirmation when applying for employment (Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council 2005/36/EC). Training in the Czech language in the following directions:

• patient care;
• general nursing.

Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree program “Quality and safe care in the field of healthcare” with a combined form of education is available.

Social assistance

The task of the faculty is to produce specialists for:

• implementation of social prevention;
• provision of general and specialized social and legal consultations;
• conducting a social investigation, its analysis;
• performing activities in the context of the law on social services — social therapeutic activities, crisis assistance, skills practice, assistance in the realization of rights and interests, assistance in solving current operations, etc.;
• performing analytical, methodological and conceptual activities in the sanitary and social sphere;
• participation in practical training of students in individual academic disciplines;
• work with family/group, community.

Conditions of admission to the university: “buns” for foreign applicants

You can enroll in most faculties of the Polytechnic Institute in Jihlava through a certificate competition by submitting an electronic application with an attached document of education to the admissions committee. From the moment your application is fixed, you are conditionally enrolled in the selected faculty. You should not rejoice ahead of time, in order to become a full-fledged High School student, you will need to pass nostrification (confirm the truth of the marks received) and prove that the level of proficiency in the national language is sufficient to pass training.

To confirm your language knowledge, you can take an exam or take Czech language courses and get a B1-B2 level certificate, which is enough for admission without entrance exams to a university.

You can do this at the Prague Educational Center. We offer different training programs to choose from. You can learn Czech up to the B2 level in our semester course, or complete full training and achieve an advanced level of Czech proficiency in a year — C1. In parallel with studying Czech, you can prepare for entrance exams in specialized subjects.

Some faculties are not enrolled without examination reports. If you want to become financial geniuses or social workers, get ready to take the aptitude test, which consists of two stages:

• Written survey, including knowledge of the basics of social sciences, psychology, sociology, philosophy, biology, mathematics. There are 50 questions in the test, in front of which you need to put the correct option or mark “I don’t know”.
• An oral exam to check the cultural, political and social report, the ability of independent judgment and motivation to study.
